AAPC presents: ‘The SA Pole Showcase’
ABOUT THE SHOWCASE
The showcase is designed to display a cross blend of styles, popular with the pole community.
Upto 32 performers from applicants will be selected and invited to perform. (8 per division)
Showcase entries can be from any style, and any skill level; as long as you have had around 6 months training. We will choose a range of differing routines to display on the night.
Competitors can choose from 3 divisions
– Standard (novice and open level)
- Storyteller (Any level upto semi-pro)
– and Exotique (Any level upto semi-pro)
Entries Open : Jan 2nd 2023
Entries Close : Feb 25th 2023
Finalists announced: March 4th 2023
Showcase date: April 22nd 2023 – Star Theatre
HOW TO ENTER
Applicants are required to submit a completed form including entry video and music selection/routine overview via google forms, $25 application fee and supply 1 professional photograph for promotions.
When entries close, applications are reviewed and performers selected.
All applicants will be emailed after the first selection with a link to the registration form.
Being our first year, we anticipate the number of applications will equal the slots available for performance. In the event that there is a large volume of applications we will offer upto 35 positions (as reviewed by the organisers); and any unsuccessful applications will receive a GA ticket to the show as a spectator.
Registration forms must be received at latest 2 weeks before the events. This is to ensure we can process all documents and send the appropriate information to each staff member to review.
ROUTINES INFORMATION
The poles used for the showcase will be 40mm brass Pussycat Poles. One static and one stationary. You do not need to use both poles. Static will be stage right.
Routines must run between 2-3 minutes. (Maximum 3 mins)
Props and spread (glitter/confetti) are permitted – but props must be easily carried on and off stage, and spread props must be approved.
Clothing may be removed, but you may not perform semi/nude.
You may perform a routine previously competed or performed, you do not have to present a new piece.
DIVISION INFORMATION
- Standard (2 levels - novice and open)
This section is for any style that doesn’t fit story or exotique. Routines may be just a “pretty performance” or something abit more themed.
NOVICE – Is upto and including a low Intermediate level. Basic inverting and inverted tricks permitted. (IE – Aysha OK, Handspring not)
OPEN – has no regulation on movement. High Intermediate to High Advanced levels encouraged.
- Storyteller (Any level upto semi-pro)
The storytelling section is for exactly that… story telling!
Whether dance based, theatrical or something else, we want to see the story you want to tell.
- Exotique (Any level upto semi-pro)
The sensual section, this division is solely for the more “risqué” side of pole. While this would be considered the "heels" section, heels or boots are not required.
OTHER DETAILS
You do not have to reside in SA to apply, but will have to travel to South Australia to perform.
Duo and Group applications will be considered too!
Although there will be no scoring, just for fun, we’ll be bringing the bling too! We’ll have a few “secret squirrels” planted around the venue watching the show – and they’ll vote for their favourite routines. Winners of these little awards will receive a sashie and prize.
(Awards may include - Most Entertaining, Favourite Concept, Best Costume, Best Facework, Best Footwork, Slinky slider, Crowd fav)
All performers will receive a professionally filmed copy of their routine and set of digital photographs; plus a thank you gift and discounted tickets for the event for family and friends.
