DIVISION BREAKDOWNS (LIVE COMPETITIONS)
Please note, it is not expected that you have competed or performed previously. The explanations below are a guideline and pertain to the maximum level you can reach for that division before moving to the next.
The names of these divisions may not be reflective of the level you are training at in studio. (IE You may be in an Intermediate class, but your skills would suit the Advanced division at AAPC)

You may compete in the same division upto 3 times to "defend your title" as long as skill level has not increased.

AAPC’s Australian Artist Pole Performer - ARTIST
Upto ADVANCED level pole – ADV LEVEL DANCE PERMITTED
Minimum 6 months training. Instructors at a beginner or intermediate teaching level are permitted to enter this category. Acro and floorwork is permitted at an intermediate/advanced level. Judging focus is weighted towards performance and theatrics (artistic) over technical (tricks). Unlike the “standard divisions” there is no requirement of time spent on the pole; and pole work (tricks) are not essential – pole work may be basework or dance around/using the pole.

AAPC’s Australian Beginner Pole Performer - BEGINNER
Minimum 6 months training. NO INVERTING. Floor work, spins and climbing permitted; hips must remain below shoulders at all times during pole work, with the exception of a head/forearm stand (back against pole). One hand must remain on the pole at all times during pole work/spins with the exception of "angel seats" and "twisted crucifix". Acro and floorwork is permitted at a beginner-intermediate level.

AAPC’s Australian Intermediate Pole Performer - INTERMEDIATE
Dancers may invert and leg hang, but not handspring or Aysha in this category. A general rule is 3 points of contact must remain at all times (but there are some moves that fit this definition but are not allowed in this division as they would be considered too Advanced). There are rulings on upside down movement.  Instructors at a beginner teaching level are permitted to enter this category. Acro and floorwork is permitted at an intermediate level.

AAPC’s Australian Advanced Pole Performer - ADVANCED
Dancers may handspring and perform advanced tricks and flex moves in this category, but no elite movement or extreme flex. There are rulings on movement within this category. Instructors at an Intermediate level are permitted to enter this category. If competitors are entering to compete in a state level competition at an Amateur/Semi-pro level they would not be eligible for this category. (IE MXPD Amateur)

AAPC’s Australian Amateur Pole Performer - AMATEUR (ELITE)
This section is open to entrants who may have previously competed or are eligible to enter a state competition upto and including an amateur/elite division; or a national competition and not placed. (IE If you are competing at a MXPD Amateur level – this would be the division you are eligible to enter. You must not have placed in the top 2 of an Amateur level in a studio/state level competition) If you are eligible to compete at a Pro level in any competition, this would make you ineligible to compete at AAPC. Instructors and paid performers are permitted to enter this category. There is no restriction on movement in this category.

AAPC’s Australian Masters Pole Performer - MASTERS (40+ only)
This section is open to entrants who are over the age of 40. Competitors may have previously competed or are eligible to enter a state or national competition upto and including an amateur/semi pro division. Dancers may handspring and perform advanced tricks and flex moves in this category, but no elite movement or extreme flex. Instructors and paid performers are permitted to enter this category.

 Judging criteria

Performances may be in any pole style the competitor chooses (IE- Storytelling, Contemporary, Comedy, Artistic, Hiphop, Themed, Erotic etc) We allow all style of performance.
Please be aware that this is an all ages competition and while the Juniors are in a separate show, and the "standard" divisions are 18+, we cannot allow overly lewd gestures, behaviour, heavily explicit music or themes without trigger warnings.

First place in each division will be awarded to the competitor who, via the highest scores from the judges, shows a unique combination of sound technical skill and ability in their division through full execution of tricks and technique; plus demonstrates a high level of performance value through dance and/or theatrics, musicality & costuming, stage presence, showmanship and overall embodiment, whatever style or genre they choose to perform through artistic expression and cohesion of performance.

The AAPC Pole Performer competition is a performance based competition, not highest degree of difficulty. Rather than awarding points for trick heavy/high level tricks; Judges look at execution of moves using proper techniques and full execution.
